Funny Girl Cameron Diaz Gets Serious

‘My father died almost exactly a year ago,” Cameron Diaz says. “It’s still such a huge thing in my life. There’s no way that I could ever say enough about him. I could never explain how amazing he was. A life that big, somebody that incredible, doesn’t leave. He’s still part of our family. We talk about him all the time.”

Diaz was in the midst of filming the heartbreaking My Sister’s Keeper, playing a mother fighting to save the life of her terminally ill daughter, when she faced a tragedy of her own. Her 58-year-old father, Emilio, died suddenly of complications from pneumonia. Production came to a halt as Diaz headed home to be with her family before returning to complete the film, which opens June 26.

Playing a parent facing the end of her child’s life would be a challenge for any actress, but I asked Diaz how the loss of her father influenced her performance.

“I was in shock,” she says. “Whether or not I got to take that experience and apply it to my work is something that I can’t answer.”

She is extremely close to her mother, Billie, and her sister, Chimine. She credits her family with her work ethic, her backbone, and her admittedly weird sense of humor. But her father was at the center of Diaz’s world.

A few years ago, we laughed together about how she had been brought up as a “daddy’s boy.”

“He was a huge football fan,” she says with a smile. “Dad didn’t have a son, so my sister and I sort of absorbed his love of sports. We’d watch a game, and he’d be screaming at the top of his lungs. Dad was so funny and such a boy. It was great to have that influence in my life.”

Jon Gosselin Seen With Friends Minus Kate Over Memorial Day Weekend At Bar

He claims everything written about his has been false, so I suppose it's no big deal that Jon Gosselin of 'Jon and Kate Plus 8' was seen out once again with a few female friends drinking at a bar.

While Kate Gosselin took their 8 children to North Carolina, Jon stood behind and instead spent Memorial Day weekend with some friends.

"They came in, approached the bar, got some drinks and then stood off on their own by a railing," says a bouncer who checked Jon's ID. "They were laughing and talking and they all left together."

The bouncer says Jon and the younger woman, "were standing close at one point ... but there was not any PDA that I noticed."

At least the bouncer didn't make anything up or exaggerate! That's certainly a change.

Manager Robb Tanczos says Jon drank Miller Lite and also confirms nothing was romantic.

"I didn't see any kissing, touching, caressing or anything like that," he says. "They just kind of chilled."

After 40 minutes or so, people started to recognize who Jon was and attempted to take pictures of him with their cell phones. That's when the crowd spread out and eventually left the Newburgh bar.

Sources say Jon and his two friends spent about 40 minutes in the outdoor area of the Newburgh bar and left after it appeared people began noticing they were there.

"People tried taking cell phone pictures and they turned around to face the railing and kind of spread out so they weren't standing so close," says the bouncer. "I think once people recognized him they left," adds Tanczos.

Tori Spelling Makes Her Own Baby Food

Tori Spelling recently made the switch from jarred organic baby food to homemade purees and she says she'll never go back to the store-bought brands.

In a video posted on MySpace the mom-of-two laughs that a lot of people will probably be shocked to learn that she makes the food herself.

"People are like, Tori spelling doesn't do that, she probably has someone who cooks for her. No, actually I don't and I actually make my baby food."

She tells how her 11-month-old daughter Stella reacted the first time she tried her mom's home cooking.

"Once I made my own baby food, I literally gave it to her the first day... and her face lit up, she had this huge smile.

I was like, Oh my gosh. This is like an infomercial of why you should make your own baby food! It's happening right here in my backyard and no one's here to see it. It was so amazing and ever since that way I'm like, I'm telling you: Make your own baby food because it's such a huge difference for them."

Tori is also mom to 2-year-old son Liam.

Melissa Explains It All ... in a Bikini

Looking at Melissa Joan Hart's new 113-lb. bikini body, it's hard to believe it was only last summer she felt "horrified" by the unflattering bathing suits shots taken of her at a Southern California beach.

"I still read blogs about me discussing how fat I've become," the former Sabrina, the Teenage Witch star tells PEOPLE in the new issue, available on newsstands Friday.

"Everyone still thinks I'm huge," says Hart, 33, whose post-pregnancy body was the subject of cruel Internet attacks after she gave birth to sons Mason, 3, and Braydon, 14 months, with husband, Course of Nature lead singer Mark Wilkerson, 32. "But I'm not anymore!"

Hart understands the confusion. After all, the public has grown accustomed to seeing celebs get back in their skinny jeans mere weeks after giving birth. "There are enormous pressures put on you in Hollywood," she says.

Her inspiration to finally get back in the best shape of her life? The women in her life, including her friend, actress Jaime Pressly, who has a son, Dezi, 2, as well as her own mom Paula, who gave birth to seven children "and is tiny!" Hart says. "I realized I didn't have to be heavy just because I have kids."

Adds Pressly: "She finally took the time to take care of herself. I'm blown away by how amazing she looks."

Reclaiming her slim figure took Hart 14 months of hard work. "It didn't happen by magic – it was as hard for me as it would be for anyone else," she says. The fact that it took a little longer doesn't bother her. "I didn't want to take any time away from spending it with my sons," she explains.

To get back in bikini shape, Hart worked with nutritionist Derek Johnson at New Metabolism to change her diet. She also hit the gym with her trainer Mark Harari at Pulse Fitness Studio.

As for how she feels now? "I feel amazing!" she says. "I had to prove to myself that I could do it. I had to give it a go!"

Buffy Coming Back To The Big Screen - But No Whedon, Gellar Or Angel

Hollywood Reporter is... reporting that Buffy is coming to the big screen thanks to original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband Kaz. Joss Whedon, the show's creator is not involved and it won't really relate to anything the show produced (think characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike). It's more a remake of the original movie.

Fran and Kaz want to RESTART the storyline just like 'Star Trek' did with the movie in theatres today.

One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows Vertigo and Kuzui to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.

Kelly Clarkson: "I don't believe in dieting"

According to fitness expert Joe Catalano, Kelly Clarkson is 165 pounds. 35 pounds overweight. So, what does Kelly plan to do about it? Star Magazine reports:

...Kelly’s always favored a piece of cheesecake over perfection. “I’ve always been thicker,” she’s said. “I don’t believe in dieting.” And even now, says a friend, “She’s happy where she’s at. She doesn’t think being thin should be a big priority in her life.” Plus, she wants to continue to be a good role model for her more voluptuous fans. “She gets tons of fan letters telling her to stay curvy,” the source says. “The last thing she wants to do is betray those young women who look up to her by going on a crash diet.” But even though she’s just fine with being on the fuller side, Kelly’s starting to consider making a change. “She’s nervous about her health,” a friend reveals. Sandra Bullock: ‘I won’t do musicals’

Actress Sandra Bullock has insisted that she will never star in a musical.

The Proposal actress told Harper’s Bazaar that she isn’t a fan of actors taking to the stage on Broadway or to sing and dance in musical inspired movies.

“I won’t tackle a musical,” she said.

“I’m not a singer. People don’t want to see me in a musical. I hate them. Hate them. I do know my limits. I don’t always heed them, but I know them.”

Earlier this year, Bullock joined the cast of football dramedy Blindside, about the rags to riches story of the NFL’s Michael Oher.

Brooke’s cancer scare

Brooke Shields has been known for her striking beauty for decades but her sun worshipping ways caught up with her recently when doctors found a pre-cancerous spot on her face.

Shields says she’s doing fine after having the spot removed but it served as a wake-up call to the actress who “used to think it was the best thing in the world to be baking in the sun” and who, as a teen, would indulge in hot-weather rituals like “baby oil and tinfoil and lemon in your hair.”

“All my girlfriends and I would go up on the roof in New York; we didn’t have to be at the beach,” though Brooke says she gave up active tanning over a decade ago she realizes now alot of the damage has already been done: “You think that because you’re not in the sun anymore, it’s all in the past. And then something like that crops up and you’re made aware of how dangerous it really can be.”

Brooke is now the new face of Coppertone Nutrashield which claims to protect from sun damage while promoting skin repair.

Singer and actress Mandy Moore says she’s not a size 0 because she’s ‘not 14 anymore’

She says: “I appreciate when there are other women out there who are beautiful and aren’t, you know, a pound. I feel lucky that I don’t feel pressure to have my whole life be controlled by whether I fit into a certain size.”

Mandy who says she’s generally comfortable with how she looks says that no one looks like their pictures all the time and that stars have alot of help to look the part ” When you’re a star, you have professionals who make you look a certain way. I can’t roll out of bed and look that way.”

Finally she says that we should embrace our differences instead of holding one or two people up as ‘ideal’ because it isn’t realistic, and she’s happy to represent the non-0 side of things:

“I’m very comfortable with the way that I look, but it’s not fair for women to use someone or something as a bar. It’s not reality, for anyone. I am happy to be myself and represent something different for women.”
