Taylor Swift Tells TIME Why She Went to War Against DJ Who Groped Her

The singer also reveals that Kesha was there for her when she needed support.

Taylor Swift one of the many women celebrated by Time Magazine's Person of the Year Issue, which named "Silence Breakers" against sexual harassment as its cover stars.

In the accompanying issue, the singer breaks her own silence about her court case earlier this year against DJ David Mueller, who sued her for defamation after he was fired when she told his superiors that Mueller had groped her backstage at a concert. She countersued for $1 and won.

When asked why she decided to take him to court and passionately testify against him, Swift explained that the decision had little to do with herself, but what he could do in the future to someone else. "I figured that if he would be brazen enough to assault me under these risky circumstances and high stakes, imagine what he might do to a vulnerable, young artist if given the chance," she told the publication. "It was important to report the incident to his radio station because I felt like they needed to know. The radio station conducted its own investigation and fired him. Two years later, he sued me."

Swift also revealed she reached out to another pop star to talk her through everything. "I spoke to Kesha on the phone and it really helped to talk to someone who had been through the demoralizing court process," she said. Kesha is in her an ongoing war against Dr. Luke.

The 27-year-old singer got heaps of social media praise after she took the stand, hitting back at Mueller's lawyer with fiery responses like, "I am not going to allow your client to make me feel like it is any way my fault because it isn't" and "I'm critical of your client sticking his hand under my skirt and grabbing my ass."

"My mom was so upset after her cross-examination, she was physically too ill to come to court the day I was on the stand. I was angry. In that moment, I decided to forego any courtroom formalities and just answer the questions the way it happened," she said of her passionate testimony. "This man hadn't considered any formalities when he assaulted me, and his lawyer didn't hold back on my mom - why should I be polite? I'm told it was the most amount of times the word 'ass' has ever been said in Colorado Federal Court."

Though she won, Swift also told Time that, "to this day he has not paid me that dollar, and I think that act of defiance is symbolic in itself."

To her fans and anyone else dealing with abuse or harassment, she added, "My advice is that you not blame yourself and do not accept the blame others will try to place on you. You should not be blamed for waiting 15 minutes or 15 days or 15 years to report sexual assault or harassment, or for the outcome of what happens to a person after he or she makes the choice to sexually harass or assault you."

She also praised the "brave women" speaking out in public for helping "move the needle in terms of letting people know that this abuse of power shouldn’t be tolerated."

Review of the book Same Kind Of Different As Me

This book caught my attention because I wanted to see the movie first. But I decided to read the book first. This was about a rich man and woman who start helping at a soup kitchen. They met this homeless man and become friends with him and learn about GOD about the way. It was a very scriptural/Christian book. One thing I did not like about this book was the use of the "n"word because that put me off.

I liked the quote on page 61 which reads " I cannot see into a person's heart to know his spiritual condition. All I can do is tell the jagged tale of my own spiritual journey and declare that my life has been the better for having followed Christ."

I also liked the quote on page 126 which reads " You got to get the devil out of the house 'fore you clean it up! And that's what happened to me in them woods. I had time to clear my head and shake loose some of my old demons and think about what God might have in mind for the last part of my life. When you is precious to God, you become important to Satan. Watch your back. The thief comes in the night."

I liked the quote on page 129  which reads " the story of Joshua and Caleb, two of the twelve men Moses sent to spy out the promised land and bring back a report for the children of Israel. When the spies came back, they brought good news and bad news. The good news was that the land did flow with milk and honey, just as God has promised. The bad news was that the land was inhabited by giants. The Israelites wept with fear, all except for Joshua and Caleb, who said, If the Lord is pleased with us, He will give us the land. Do not be afraid"

Review of the book Evidence That Demands A Verdict

This is a really good book. It shows you scriptures from the bible and other points of view such as authors and their own personal beliefs all to show you the bible is evidently true and correct. I have only gotten to page 280 but have hit a road block so I will only review up into that point. In the introduction on page xxxix Professor of philosophy David Horner explains " Faith and reason are friends and partners. They go together. They need each other and cannot flourish or even survive apart. Our faith should be a reasonable faithful reason-one that recognizes the inevitable and rationally necessary presence of trust and commitment. Trusting and committing yourself to what you have good reason to think is true and trustworthy, in those cases when doing so is appropriate thing you can do."

Another quote I enjoyed from Timothy Keller says " When Martin Luther King ,Jr. confronted racism in the white church in the South, he did not call on Southern churches to become more secular. He called white Christians to be more true to their own beliefs and to realize what the Bible really teaches. He did not say 'Truth is relative and everyone is free to determine what is right or wrong for them.' If everything is relative, there would have been no incentive for white people in the South to give up their power. Rather, Dr King invoked the prophet Amos, who said " Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness as a mighty stream." The greatest champion of justice in our era knew the antidote to racism was not less Christianity, but a deeper and truer Christianity.

I liked the quote on page 14 which says "two examples of attempt to destroy the bible, one ancient and one recent, demonstrate the ferocity of Christianity's opponents" I liked reading about the different ways the bible was written down such as papyri. On the page 267 Evidence for the Appearance of Jesus, Moreland makes a case for the historicity of the appearance of Jesus. "Several features of the appearance narratives argue for their historicity. First we have...an early testimony by Paul himself that he saw that resurrected Christ. This is strong evidence, for Paul was obviously sincere in his testimony and he understood the resurrection of Jesus as a bodily resurrection. Second, women were the first to see the risen Christ and, given status of women as witnesses in first century, this fact is hard to understand if it really did not happen..."

Review of the book Mercy Never Sleeps by Jamie Blaine

I enjoyed reading the book Mercy Never Sleeps. It is about a person who runs the crisis call center and tends to help people who are feeing down about life and want to hurt themselves. He says in the book that those people show him what life is really about and brings himself closer to Jesus and God. He meets people with depression, people who took pills to get rid of the pain and need to go to treatment or the hospital to get help. He meets people with schizophrenia and hear things and tries to help them cope with reality. He himself is an insomniac and has trouble sleeping so he starts taking these sleeping pills but it ends up messing up his brain and in the end has a nervous breakdown and has to be hospitalized and got an IV put in him to his mind could to sleep and he could start fresh. 

He had other jobs as well such as a dj where he met lots of interesting people late at night who also couldn't sleep and heard stories of people that stuck with him and he later will use this book to tell their stories and how they came out okay in the end. I liked throughout the book how he tries to be a good Christian and reads the bible trying to understand everything. He prays to God a lot and to Jesus and I believe they heard him and answered his prayers a lot.

A Time to Stand by Robert Whitlow Review

This book was a really good book! It was about a white cop who was accused of critically injuring a black teenager after he got the report that the teenage boy had taken part in a robbery was on the run. The book is how his lawyers try to show him as innocent and not end up in jail. Religion played a big part in this book, the lawyer that was representing him, found GOD and become a religious person which helped her and her client. I read the whole book in about a day because I could not put it down. I did not see the ending of the book at all and had me in suspense the entire time. This book was interesting because blacks and whites had different views on everything and didn't always agree. Black people said cops were out to get them because of their race. White cops didn't want to be seen as racists. This was my first time reading this author and I would recommend this author to everyone I know and try to find more books by this author. When the white cop was accused of his crime the way the blacks treated him was uncalled for. Shots were fired into his house which endangered his family. It was like the black people wanted retaliation which isn't very safe or a smart way to help move things along. The only black person who was courteous in all of this was the black suspects aunt who forgave the man regardless of his outcome because that's what God showed us to do.

Review of the book Portrait Of Vengeance by Carrie Stuart Parks

I just read the best book. It was about a girl named Gwen who is a forensic artist for a police office who gets descriptions of people and makes a sketch of them and then helps find killers and people and also helps find missing children as well. The story is about how Gwen tries to find a missing girl and her killer. She also is trying to find out what happened to her family and what happened to her as a kid as well. She spends time in the wilderness and almost gets killed and also almost eaten by a cougar. She finds out what happens to her parents and who she really is. I liked this book because it kept me on the edge of my seat and made me feel like I was part of the story and what happened to Gwen, really happened to me, like I was right with her with everything going on. I have never read a story by this author but I will definitely recommend it and tell people to pick up books by this author. It was very suspenseful and the killer was someone I wasn't expecting. I read this whole book in 3 days, I couldn't put it down. I  can't wait to read more books by this author. I would recommend this book to everyone and tell them how exciting and suspenseful it was. Review of the book It Started With Goodbye by Christina June

I really enjoyed this book. I read it in 2 days! It is about a girl who gets into some trouble with the law and has to do community service and his homebound under her parents supervision. She learns alot about herself and makes some new friends along the way. I had never read this author before but I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was part of the book, everything the characters did, I did as well. I think I will read more from this author in the future. This book was totally worth it and I would recommend it to everyone and hope they read this book as well. I have never done community service but in this book the character makes it seem important and something that everyone should do to impact their community. It helps you help the community and the environment but helps you realize what is important in life and not worry about stupid things. The author describes this story was a modern play on the cinderella story. And that sometimes going after what you want means breaking the rules. I think what she means is do not break the law and get into trouble but break a small rule and live your life. The characters name is Tatum Elsea and she meets lot of friends in this book and meets her godmother as well since her parents wanted her to always being under supervision when they were not there. She becomes friends with her godmother as well.

Review of the book Collateral Damage by John Chirban

It took me a while to read this book. I did not like how slow the pace was and had trouble getting into it. This book is about how divorce affects both children and parents. It shares stories of how children handled divorce with quotes about how they felt during that time.  I liked the quote on page 7 which says " Research reveals disturbing information about the plight for children of divorce: when the family structure breaks, the children turn elsewhere, often to peers and the media, and may embrace deviancy and recklessness. They may act out for needed attention and become primary targets for street gangs, drug dealers, and sexual abuse. Children of divorce are more likely to be involved in crime and die at younger ages than children from intact homes, and they are also more prone to suicide. When they get older, children of divorce are more likely to go through a divorce themselves and to bear children out of wedlock. Adults with divorced parents are 38 percent more likely to have a divorce themselves  than adults raised in intact families."

What parents should say to their children about divorce is I see you. You are important and invaluable, and you know it. I love you and act in ways that show it. I recognize you and take time to give you the attention you deserve, and we celebrate it. I guide you to discover your true self that shapes your identity, dignity and direction and embrace it.

Review of the book It's Okay about It by Lauren Casper

I really enjoyed this book. It is about a parent who has an autistic son and she writes about his life lessons that we all can learn from and help better our life. I like the quote on page 15 says " What we see as set-backs or standstills are actually turning points in our story. We see failure, but GOD sees progress and gently nudges us to keep walking, or crawling,forward-to pick ourselves up and try again and again and again. " Another quote is " I'm learning that GOD often works that way in our lives-quietly behind the curtain, moving all the parts to create something beautiful and unexpected. But because I don't have his perspective, and I can't see the plan for building my unique life, I complain and worry."

I also like the quote on page 27 that says " Scripture points to the important and value of all our emotions as response to life. There's an entire book of the bible titled Lamentations. A lamentation is defined as weeping, or a passionate expression of grief or sorrow. To lament something is to outwardly express the full agony felt in your heart, because there are moments in life when no other response is appropriate. Ecclesiastes 3:4 tells us there is a time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. This tells me that weeping and mourning are just as important as laughing and dancing."

I like the quote on page 41" sometimes GOD takes us on an exhausting, uphill battle. We stumble and fall and think we can't do it, but when we get up and take our Father's hand, we find that together we can do more than we ever though possible."

Review of book Beyond Justice by Cara Putman

This book was a thrilling book and kept my attention the entire time. It was about a lawyer named Hayden and she takes on this case even though people are trying to stop her from finding out the outcome of the case. It has many twists and turns it in that you don't see coming. I read the entire book in 3 days because I could not put it down. I think if this author would write more books I would read them because I her writing interesting and intense. I talked about this book to my mom and dad because I enjoyed it so much. I could not wait to read every page and chapter and did not want to put it down. I don't want to say to much because I do not want to give up too much so someone else can enjoy this book and enjoy its suspenseful.Hayden ends up getting her own law firm and business after she masters this case. So she was a really good lawyer and really knows what she is doing. There were other characters in the book as well. Her roommate Emilie who helps along the way as well and Emilie's cousin Andrew who is going through his own problems in the book that seem to intertwine with Hayden. In the end you will find out who falls in love and what happens to the characters as well. Overall a very good book and would recommend it to anyone who wants a good read.

Book review by Kristy Cambron called The Illusionist's Apprentice.

I will start off by saying how much I hated this book. I could not get into no matter how hard I tried. It is about a girl named Wren who is an apprentice to a master illusionist Harry Houdini. After his death, she continues her career. But after a rival performers ct goes tragically wrong, FBI goes to her to get the truth about what happened. This book started out slow and continues that way for way over 100 pages. I could not get into the book. I thought this book would be about a magician and his acts and how they do their tricks but it was not like that at all. Which stinks because I was eagerly excited to read this book and was waiting on pins and needles to get it making me disappointed. This is my first time reading a book from this author Kristy Cambron and I probably will not read another book by this author. I am having trouble writing this review because it has to be a certain length and I only read the first 100 pages of the book and will now throw the book in the trash. I thought if I kept on reading the book would get better but that was not true. Why did this book have to disappoint me so much. I have even told family members like my dad how bad this book was because I did not want him wasting money on this book at all.

Review of a book called An Amish Home

This book was better than expected. It had 4 books in one. All about Amish families. All centered around one theme, prayer. My favorite author has always been Beth Wiseman, I will always read her books. No matter what goes on in life, GOD is always there and you just have to talk and pray to him and he will listen and help. The first book was about Sarah who got into a car accident and ended up in a wheelchair. She ended up having to cope with her new life and managing on her own. The second book is about a couple named Chase and Mia who got evicted from their own home and had to find somewhere else to live and its about learning how to live on their own and learning how to lean on others for support. The Third book is about Noreen and Thomas whose marriage was falling apart and their house had burned to the ground in a fire so they have to cope with rebuilding their house and working on their marriage. The 4th book was not really that great, I couldn't get into it. I stopped reading it and just does not care about it. I like reading about the Amish culture and life and learning about their way of life. I find it fascinating.I like how simple the Amish people live their lives and how they are always willing to help others around them even if they are less fortunate than others.
